Udupi Deputy Commissioner K Vidya Kumari has instructed officials to accelerate the process of acquiring land for industrial zones to facilitate business expansion. Speaking at a meeting at Rajatadri on Wednesday, she emphasized that land has already been earmarked in various taluks, and the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) must acquire these plots swiftly. She stressed the need for essential infrastructure like power supply, roads, and drainage to support industrial development and job creation.

Land Acquisition & Infrastructure Development

A total of 77 acres of private land has been acquired and fully compensated—31.2 acres in Kerebettu village of Hebri taluk and 45.7 acres in Shivapura village. However, approval for 36.5 acres of government-owned land remains pending. The DC instructed the forest department to verify whether this land falls under an eco-sensitive zone before proceeding.

Road Expansion & Water Conservation

She urged officials to fast-track minor land acquisitions to widen the access road to Belapu Industrial Area and begin construction immediately. In the Miyaru Industrial Area, all industrial units must incorporate rainwater harvesting systems to mitigate water shortages.

Boosting Industrial & Export Growth

Currently, 22 export-based industries operate in the district. The DC called for increased efforts to promote exports and attract more industrial ventures.

The meeting was attended by key officials from the industries department, KIADB, and local industry associations.
