Five people sustained serious injuries after their SUV was struck by an insulator vehicle near Kumbashi village in Udupi on Wednesday. The victims include Narayana, 68, Valsal, 60, Anita, 57, Chitralekha, 57, and the insulator vehicle’s driver, Mahesh.

The group, led by Madhusudanan from Kerala, had embarked on a trip to Karnataka on November 19 in a rented SUV driven by Falalu Rehman. Their journey included visits to Gokarna and Udupi’s Krishna Mutt. Around 3 PM, while reversing near Sri Chandika Durgaparameshwari Temple, their car was hit from behind by a speeding insulator vehicle traveling from Kundapur to Udupi.

The collision forced the SUV off the road, causing it to overturn and leaving it severely damaged. All passengers suffered head and limb injuries, with the roof of the vehicle torn off. Local residents promptly rushed the injured to a hospital in Koteshwara for immediate care. Following medical advice, the critically injured victims were transferred to a private hospital in Manipal for advanced treatment.

The Kundapur Traffic Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
