Udupi district has emerged as the rainfall leader in Karnataka, not just for July 2025 but for the entire year so far, according to the District Disaster Management Centre in Manipal. The district recorded a 12% surplus in July rainfall with 1,626 mm, compared to the average 1,448 mm — although this figure is 421 mm less than July 2024, which had witnessed a 41% surplus.

While the district as a whole received higher-than-average rainfall, key Western Ghats regions, typically known for heavy monsoons, saw slight deficits:

  • Karkala: 1,448 mm (1% below average)
  • Hebri: 1,748 mm (9% below average)

Other taluks recorded notable excesses:

  • Kundapur: 1,699 mm (44% above average)
  • Byndoor: 1,739 mm (25% above average)
  • Brahmavar: 1,503 mm (18% above average)
  • Kapu: 1,366 mm (18% above average)
  • Udupi town: 1,424 mm (17% above average)

From January 1 to July 31, Udupi registered 3,727 mm of cumulative rainfall, marking a 35% increase over the average of 2,754 mm. This surpasses the 19% excess during the same period in 2024.

Taluk-wise rainfall surplus (Jan–July 2025):

  • Kundapur: 54% above average
  • Karkala: 37% above
  • Byndoor: 40% above
  • Udupi: 39% above
  • Brahmavar & Kapu: 41% above
  • Hebri: 16% above

This consistent pattern highlights Udupi’s climate resilience and geographical edge in monsoon accumulation this year.
