Udupi, Jun 17: Following the expiration of the deadline for removing shrill horns from city and service buses, Udupi traffic police have begun inspections and imposed fines on non-compliant vehicles.

Enforcement Actions

After a meeting on June 3 mandated the removal of shrill horns by June 15, sub-inspector Sudharshan led inspections at the Udupi city bus stop. Seven buses were found with shrill horns still installed, leading to fines of Rs 500 per bus, totaling Rs 3,500. A second offense could incur a penalty of Rs 10,000.

Compliance Status

Many buses had already removed their shrill horns voluntarily before the deadline. The inspections, which began on Sunday, will continue with a focus on both city and service buses starting from Tuesday.

Additional Measures

Police officials also instructed bus owners during the meeting to remove music systems and speakers from their vehicles.
