Udupi: A 33-year-old woman from Perduru village has become the latest victim of a cyber investment fraud. The complainant, identified as Nisha B, was allegedly tricked by unknown fraudsters who promised quick financial returns.

According to the police complaint, Nisha began receiving unsolicited phone calls over the past week. The callers convinced her to invest in a scheme that, they claimed, would double her money in a short span. Trusting their assurances, she ended up transferring a total of ₹1.12 lakh to multiple bank accounts between July 7 and July 14.

The accounts belonged to individuals she did not know personally. After the transactions were made, the callers became unreachable, raising suspicion and prompting her to file a complaint.

The case has been registered at the Hiriyadka police station under Section 66D of the Information Technology Act, which deals with cheating by impersonation using electronic communication.

Cybercrime officials have urged citizens to exercise caution when receiving investment offers from unknown sources. Authorities are actively investigating the case and working to trace the culprits behind the scam.

This incident is yet another reminder of the growing threat of online financial fraud in the region, especially targeting individuals through social engineering tactics like fake investment schemes.

Residents are advised to verify the authenticity of any financial offer and report suspicious activity to the cybercrime helpline.
