Udupi: Vidushi Deeksha V, a native of Mundinjiddu in Brahmavar taluk, has etched her name in history by performing Bharatnatyam continuously for more than 170 hours, breaking the earlier record of 170 hours.

The marathon performance, which began on August 21 at 3:30 pm, crossed the milestone on Thursday, August 28, at 5:30 pm. Deeksha, however, is not stopping at the record. She has set her sights on completing 216 hours of performance over nine days, which will conclude on Saturday, August 30, at 5 pm.

Support and recognition

The feat is being supported by Ratna Sanjeeva Kalamandala, Manipal, under the leadership of Mahesh Thakur and with the guidance of former Udupi MLA K Raghupati Bhat.

Dr Manish Bishnoy, Asian head of the Golden Book of World Records, Delhi, officially declared Deeksha’s new record.

The event was also attended by Yashwanth M G (Golden Book of Records holder), Nadoja D G Shanker, Geethanjali Survarna, and other dignitaries.

Previous record

Earlier, Remona Evette Pereira of Mangaluru had set the Golden Book of World Records with a 170-hour Bharatanatyam performance. Deeksha has now surpassed this milestone and continues to create a new benchmark in the field of classical dance.

Deeksha had long aspired to achieve great heights in Bharatanatyam. By pushing beyond physical and mental limits, she is not only showcasing endurance and dedication but also bringing pride to Udupi and Karnataka’s rich cultural heritage.
