Udupi – The Udyavara Gram Panchayat Stadium was left littered with liquor bottles and plastic waste, following a recent event, sparking outrage among locals. The area, which hosts multiple community sports activities, was reportedly in a deplorable condition, resembling a garbage dump.
On receiving information, Gram Panchayat President Malathi Sandeep promptly visited the site along with cleaning staff and oversaw a thorough cleanup operation. Expressing concern, she stated that the event organizers had been strictly instructed to maintain hygiene going forward.
Malathi Sandeep emphasized that CCTV surveillance will soon be implemented in and around the stadium to deter such behavior. “We have notified the beat police and filed a complaint regarding the consumption of alcohol in public and the irresponsible disposal of bottles,” she said. Legal action will be pursued against violators.
Supporting the initiative, Panchayat member Nitin Kumar added that since the stadium hosts frequent sports events, maintaining its cleanliness and public utility is crucial. “We appeal to citizens to refrain from littering and treat this space with respect. Dumping plastic or glass bottles irresponsibly is not acceptable, and strict penalties will be imposed on those caught,” he warned.
The Panchayat has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental upkeep, urging the public to act responsibly and cooperate with local authorities in keeping shared spaces clean and safe.
