Malpe police have arrested three individuals and taken one more into custody in connection with an incident involving the alleged assault of a woman at Malpe Port, near Udupi, on Tuesday morning. The arrested individuals—Lakshmi, Shilpa, and Sundar—are accused of physically confronting the woman after she was accused of taking fish without permission.

According to police, the woman, a resident of Vijayanagara district who has been working in the coastal region for the past five years, was carrying a basket of fish from the Sri Aradhana boat. The situation escalated, and it was reported that the woman was tied to a tree and subjected to physical force.

A video of the incident has been circulating online, prompting concern within the community. Udupi Superintendent of Police Arun K confirmed that a case has been registered, and police are currently examining the available evidence, including video footage. Udupi Deputy Commissioner Vidya Kumari K strongly condemned the incident, stressing that such actions are unacceptable and that bystanders should have intervened.
