Udupi: A Yakshagana artiste from Sasihitlu Mela, Nithin Kumar, has filed a complaint at Padubidri police station after being assaulted by three individuals over an alleged loan repayment issue.
The accused include Sachin Amin, a Yakshagana artiste from Udyavara and a former member of Pavanje Mela, his father Kushalanna, and another financier. Nithin and Sachin were reportedly friends before the conflict over the unpaid loan arose.
On January 21, the accused allegedly lured Nithin to a house in Udyavara, where they attacked him with a bar commonly used in kambala events. The assault caused injuries to Nithin’s back, head, and legs. Additionally, the accused reportedly forced Nithin to sign a blank bond paper and further humiliated him by kicking and slapping him.
Despite his injuries, Nithin returned to Padubidri that evening and performed at a Yakshagana event in Puttur the same night. On January 22, he sought treatment at a private hospital in Padubidri before filing a police complaint.
The Padubidri police have registered the case, and an investigation is underway to determine the details of the incident.
