Uttar Pradesh Deploys Mobile Labs for Food Safety Inspections at Maha Kumbh Mela
In a bid to ensure the safety and hygiene of food served at the Maha Kumbh Mela, the Uttar Pradesh government has introduced mobile laboratories for on-the-spot food testing. These ‘Food Safety on Wheels’ units are being deployed to conduct regular checks at eateries, including hotels, dhabas, and small stalls, to prevent the distribution of spoiled or adulterated food to the millions of pilgrims attending the event.
Assistant Food Commissioner Sushil Kumar Singh highlighted the importance of these mobile units, emphasizing that they allow quick testing and response to food safety complaints. The inspections aim to safeguard the well-being of the millions of devotees gathering for the spiritual event.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s government is actively overseeing the cleanliness and quality of food at the event, with food safety officers stationed across five zones and 25 sectors of the fair. The monitoring is being coordinated from a central office in Sector 24, ensuring prompt action on food safety issues.
The government anticipates up to 45 crore pilgrims and visitors will attend the Maha Kumbh Mela over the course of the event, which will run until February 26, making it one of the largest spiritual gatherings in the world.
