Ankola : Two months after a devastating landslide near Shirur in Ankola taluk, the site has unexpectedly become a popular tourist attraction, particularly among travelers from Kerala. Located along National Highway-66, visitors frequently stop to admire the scenic view of the landslide area and the Gangavali River, with many capturing the scene in selfies.

Tourists, including children, are seen standing on riverside stones, posing for photographs despite the dangers posed by unstable ground. The influx of visitors has sparked safety concerns, especially as there is currently no police monitoring due to security deployments for Ganesh Chaturthi, leaving the site unguarded.

Local resident Rajesh Gowda voiced his worries about the risks, suggesting that removing the mud mound still present in the river could discourage tourists from lingering in the hazardous area. “It’s not safe, and something must be done before a tragedy occurs,” he remarked.

Despite the beauty of the natural setting, the site of the landslide remains a dangerous area. Authorities are urged to install safety measures and issue warnings to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of visitors.
