Heavy rainfall in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district has led to tragic losses, with reports indicating fatalities. Nine individuals, including five members of a single family, are feared trapped under a hill collapse in Ankola. This incident occurred near Shirur in Ankola taluk, severely affecting locals and commuters on National Highway 66.

Among the victims are Lakshmana Nayka (47), Shanti Nayka (36), Roshan (11), Avantika (6), and Jagannath (55) from the same family, believed to have been caught in the landslide. Rescue efforts have been hampered by ongoing landslides and adverse weather conditions.

In another distressing incident nearby, an LPG tanker and its occupants were swept away by yet another landslide. The driver and cleaner of the tanker were tragically carried away while taking a break at a nearby canteen. Two others who were near the tanker are also reported missing, and the tanker itself was swept away by the rushing river.
