A special court in Bengaluru sentenced Karwar MLA Satish Krishna Sail to seven years in prison and imposed a ₹15 crore fine for the illegal export of seized iron ore from 2009 to 2010, according to Manorama News. Sail, initially jailed by the CBI when the case was registered, had been released on bail but was re-arrested after his recent conviction.

Despite requesting leniency due to health concerns, Sail and the other defendants were sentenced as charged.
