KARWAR: Uttara Kannada district has been experiencing unusually high temperatures in recent days. In response, Deputy Commissioner K Lakshmi Priya has directed health officials to prepare medical facilities to treat those affected by the heatwave.

During a meeting on Tuesday, she instructed hospitals at district, taluk, and community levels to reserve beds and ensure cooling arrangements like fans and air coolers in treatment areas. To safeguard residents, she also ordered a ban on outdoor summer camps, including NCC and NSS activities.

Public awareness campaigns will be launched across the district, distributing pamphlets on heatwave precautions. Residents are advised to wear hats, carry umbrellas, stay indoors during peak heat hours, and drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration. Pregnant women have been urged to take extra care of their health.

Local officials, including tahsildars and panchayat officers, have been tasked with conducting disaster task force meetings to educate the public on heatwave safety. The meeting was attended by senior health officials, animal husbandry representatives, and district officers.
