Hospet: The Kannada University in Hospet has received a significant boost with the state government’s approval of a ₹25 crore grant for development works. This allocation, which comes under the Kalyan Karnataka Regional Development Board (KKRDB), has provided much-needed relief to the university, which has been grappling with financial constraints for the past five years.
Chancellor Prof. D. V. Paramashivamurthy had submitted a proposal to Governor Thavarchand Gehlot, detailing several essential projects for the university. The proposed projects included a study building for research students, a concrete road, dormitories, an administration building, hostels for minority and OBC students, a campus barrier, and a book sale shop.
While the initial estimate for these projects totaled ₹107 crore, the government’s approval of the ₹25 crore grant has provided a substantial source of funding. The Chancellor expressed his gratitude for the government’s support and highlighted the positive impact this funding will have on the university’s research activities and overall development.
The grant will be used to address various infrastructure needs and improve the facilities available to students and faculty. It will also support essential services such as drinking water, electricity, and scholarships.
The Chancellor emphasized the importance of this funding, particularly for students from marginalized communities who have benefited from previous grants. He expressed hope that the Governor will release the funds soon, enabling the university to proceed with the planned development works.
