A shocking triple murder has been reported from Karnataka’s Vijayanagara district, where a man allegedly killed his parents and sister and later attempted to mislead police by filing a missing persons complaint in Bengaluru.
The accused has been identified as Akshay Kumar. Police said he allegedly murdered his father Bhimaraj, mother Jayalakshmi and sister Amrutha at their rented residence in Kotturu. Preliminary investigations suggest the crime took place on January 27.
Fake missing complaint raises suspicion
After the alleged murders, Akshay Kumar travelled to Bengaluru and approached a police station to report his family members as missing. During questioning, officers found inconsistencies in his statements, which raised suspicion. Under sustained interrogation, he reportedly confessed to killing all three family members.
Following the confession, police teams rushed to Kotturu and began inspecting the house where the family lived. Investigators said the bodies were allegedly buried after the crime, and further forensic procedures are underway at the spot.
Property dispute angle under probe
Police are examining whether a property dispute may have been the motive behind the murders, though officials stressed that the exact reason has not yet been established. Senior officers, including the Superintendent of Police and Deputy Superintendent of Police, visited the scene and are personally supervising the investigation.
Family’s background
According to police, the family originally hailed from Chitradurga district and had moved frequently over the years due to work. They earlier ran a button shop in Chitradurga, later shifted to Ballari district, and eventually settled in Davanagere district, where they reportedly built a house valued at over ₹1.5 crore. Around two years ago, they moved to Kotturu and were residing in a rented house.
Police said further details will emerge as the investigation progresses and forensic reports are received.
