A Naxalite was injured during an exchange of gunfire with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Sunday. The confrontation took place in the forests of Kummameta village when the District Reserve Guard (DRG) launched an anti-Naxal operation based on intelligence regarding the presence of local Naxal commander Anil Punem and a group of armed cadres.

Following the clash, Rakesh Kumar Oyam, a Naxalite affiliated with the Belchar Revolutionary Party Committee, was found injured. Oyam, who has four cases registered against him in Bijapur’s Jangla, Bhairamgarh, and Mirtur police stations, was initially treated at Bijapur district hospital and later moved to a hospital in Jagdalpur.
