Two alleged Maoists were killed in a gunfight with a joint team of security personnel in Bijapur district, south Chhattisgarh, on Friday morning. The encounter occurred around 11 a.m. in a dense forest area near the tri-junction of Usoor, Basaguda, and Pamed villages during an anti-Naxalite operation.
According to Sunderraj P, Inspector General of Police for the Bastar range, the security forces recovered the bodies of the two Maoists along with a self-loading rifle (SLR), barrel grenade launcher shells, and several locally made firearms from the site. The operation involved personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), a specialized commando unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Following the encounter, combing operations were launched in the area. The gunfight brings the total number of Maoists killed in the Bastar region to 191 this year, following another significant encounter on October 4, which resulted in the recovery of 31 Maoist bodies.
