Two suspected Maoists were killed in a gunfight with joint security forces in the forest areas of Nendra and Punnur villages, Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, on Friday morning. The encounter occurred during an anti-Maoist operation at around 7 a.m., said Superintendent of Police Jitendra Yadav.

Post-encounter, the bodies of the two deceased Maoists were recovered along with a 12-bore rifle and other Maoist-related materials. Efforts to identify the deceased are underway, and security forces have intensified combing operations in the area.

This development follows a similar operation in the Abujhmarh forest area a day earlier, where seven suspected Maoists were killed. With this latest incident, the bodies of 217 Maoists have been recovered in separate encounters across Chhattisgarh’s Bastar division in 2024, which includes seven districts like Bijapur.

The operation highlights the ongoing efforts of security forces to curb Maoist activities in the region. Police stated that further details would be provided as the search operation progresses.

Authorities continue to focus on dismantling Maoist networks in Chhattisgarh’s conflict-affected zones while ensuring the safety of security personnel and residents.
