The US President visited the United Kingdom as part of his three-day state visit to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries. The high-profile visit, apart from its political discussions and agenda, soon turned into a social event for netizens with news organisations and viral websites reporting side stories from the event. One of them is related to the resident feline of 10 Downing Street, Larry.

There are a few things in Downing Street that one can’t avoid, and Larry is certainly one of them.

The ‘Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office’ has been living at the Prime Minister’s residence since January 2011. He is generally assigned the duty of greeting guests and hunting rodents.

He has made the headlines of UK tabloids on a regular basis for his hunting skills and the relationship he shared with David Cameron and Theresa May.

This time he has made the news for taking shelter from the rain under US President Donald Trump’s armoured limousine.

As reported by NBC’s Bill Neely, the cat staged a sit-in under the car, thereby halting Trump’s movement during his tenuous three-day visit to the UK.

Earlier, Larry also appeared in a photo with Trump and outgoing UK Prime Minister Theresa May in front of 10 Downing Street.

In November, a video has gone viral on social media that showed Larry getting a helping hand from a policeman to enter the Prime Minister’s residence.

The footage was first shared online by Lauren Franklin on Twitter. She used her camera phone to record a clip from a live Sky News segment where Larry could be seen sitting right outside the door, behind the reporter.

After a rat scurried outside the 10 Downing Street door during a live broadcast in 2011, Larry was adopted from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home and assigned the duty to kill rats.

In eight years, his influence on social media has increased multi folds and he invariably manages to steal the spotlight whenever there is a broadcast from the Prime Minister’s residence.
