Madhya Pradesh: In what can be called as a major case of caste discrimination, two upper-caste villagers in Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh allegedly refused to eat sweets during a Republic Day function at a school, saying that they are contaminated because a Dalit student touched them.

According to a report in The Indian Express, the duo refused to touch the sweets after a Dalit student Sumant Ahirwar, on being asked to do so by a teacher, brought them from a room. Ahirwar later approached the police.

The Shahganj Police have booked Gaurishankar Gaur and Ghanashyam Patel under various sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the IPC after a signed complaint was received about the incident in the government middle school in Akola village.
