In a dramatic rescue, a man trapped beneath the ruins of the Golden Country Hotel in Mandalay City was pulled out alive by Chinese emergency crews — more than five days after Myanmar was rocked by a massive earthquake.
The survivor had been buried under rubble since last Friday, when a powerful 7.9-magnitude quake devastated large parts of the country. He was discovered on Wednesday, around 125 hours later, in a surprisingly stable condition.
Chinese rescuers conducted a delicate and coordinated effort to extract the man safely. He became the ninth person to be rescued alive from collapsed structures in the aftermath of the quake. Following his release, he was provided with water and promptly taken to a medical center for further treatment.
The disaster has so far resulted in over 2,800 fatalities and has left more than 4,600 people injured. Rescue and relief operations continue as officials and international teams work around the clock to find survivors and support those affected.
