New York: Authorities say three people were reported injured in a possible gas line explosion at a high school in the Bronx. Fire officials say it was reported at about 8 p.m. Thursday at John F. Kennedy High School in the Marble Hill neighborhood.
A police spokesman said the injuries were not considered life-threatening. He said crews were working on a gas line nearby when the explosion occurred.
A Con Ed spokesman says the utility company had crews headed to the school to investigate an explosion on the sixth floor.
The city’s Office of Emergency Management says there were reports of damage to the fifth and sixth floors of the eight-story building. The school serves more than 1,200 students in grades 9-12. The first day of school is Sept. 9.
