A 5.2-magnitude earthquake was felt across Pakistan’s largest city Karachi and parts of Balochistan province on Monday, triggering momentary panic among residents but causing no reported casualties.

The National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) said the epicentre was located in Sonmiani, Balochistan, at a depth of 12 kilometres, approximately 87 kilometres from Karachi.

No casualties reported

Officials from Rescue 1122 confirmed that no injuries or damage were reported following the tremor. Emergency services said they remained on alert as a precautionary measure, while local authorities monitored the situation.

Residents in several parts of Karachi reported feeling brief shaking, with some stepping outdoors as a safety measure.

City has seen earlier tremors

Karachi had experienced a series of mild earthquakes in June and July earlier this year, raising concerns among residents about the possibility of stronger seismic activity.

At that time, meteorological officials attributed the tremors to the release of seismic energy along a historical fault line in the Landhi area, a known seismic zone in the city’s eastern corridor.

Authorities urge calm, preparedness

Seismologists reiterated that minor to moderate earthquakes are not uncommon in the region due to underlying fault lines. Authorities advised residents to remain calm, follow standard safety protocols during tremors, and avoid spreading unverified information.

Emergency services said they are prepared to respond if required, and urged the public to report any damage or distress to local helplines.
