Khalil Ur-Rahman Haqqani, Afghanistan’s acting refugee minister, was tragically killed in a suicide bombing in Kabul on Wednesday, along with five others. The Taliban confirmed the attack, attributing it to ISIS, which later took responsibility. Haqqani, a key member of the influential Haqqani Network, had been managing the refugee crisis in Afghanistan since the departure of foreign forces in 2021. He was also the uncle of Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban’s current interior minister. The bombing occurred at the Ministry of Refugees, and the Taliban condemned it as a cowardly act.
