New Delhi: Just a few days ago, sources from Air India claimed that they had altered the routes of flights from India to Europe, avoiding Iranian airspace. However, contradictory news emerged on Tuesday. According to a report by Flightradar24, a website that tracks flights, just hours before Iran’s massive aerial attack on Israel, at least two Air India planes flew through Iran-controlled airspace, potentially endangering the lives of passengers and crew.

Air India flights 116 and 131 travelled from New York to Mumbai and from Mumbai to London, respectively, on April 13 and April 14, passing over the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. This occurred amidst heightened tensions between Iran and Israel.

Over the weekend, Iran launched a massive attack on Israel, deploying missiles and over 300 drones. The anticipation of Iran’s military assault had been building for days, following escalated tensions between the two Middle Eastern countries since April 1, when fighter jets struck a building associated with the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, Syria.

Was Iran’s Attack on Israel a Strategic Miscalculation?
