Bangkok: While the whole world is living in fear of the novel coronavirus, the medical fraternity of Thailand has given new hope for the people who have been infected with the contagion, by using a cocktail of anti-virals to cure those struck with the disease. The cocktail is a mix of anti-virals which are used to treat flu and HIV. This was confirmed by the health ministry of Thailand.

According to doctor Kriengsak Attipornwanich, on Sunday, February 2, a 71-year-old patient tested negative for the life-threatening disease, had recovered in just 48 hours of treatment with the cocktail of anti-virals.

Kriengsak said that the patient, who was exhausted and wasn’t able to wake up earlier, sat up on the bed after 12 hours of the treatment.

As per the reports, the doctors had combined the anti-flu drug Oseltamivir with anti-virals used to treat HIV, namely Lopinavir and Ritonavir.

The ministry has said that it is waiting for the research results to prove the findings.

Meanwhile, health minister Anutin Charnvirakul has met the recovered patient and spoken with her. The 71-year-old patient thanked the minister for the necessary measures taken.

Currently, around 19 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Thailand. Eight have been discharged and 11 others are still being treated in various hospitals.
