The incident took place around 4:15 pm, when a passenger train traveling from Kishoreganj to Dhaka collided with a freight train. The collision was so severe that it resulted in the derailment of two passenger carriages, leading to a catastrophic loss of life and extensive injuries.

Rising Death Toll and Numerous Injuries

Rescue operations are ongoing, and local police official Sirajul Islam voiced concerns that the number of fatalities might rise as the rescue efforts continue. The accident has left over 100 individuals injured, further underscoring the devastating impact of the collision.

A Grief-Stricken Nation

Sadiqur Rahman, the government administrator in Bhairab, provided insight into the magnitude of the tragedy. He said, “We have recovered 15 bodies, many are injured. The death toll will rise.” Rescue teams are grappling with the arduous task of accessing passengers trapped beneath overturned and damaged train coaches.
