A major political stir erupted online as “Republic of Balochistan announced” trended widely after Baloch activists, including Mir Yar Baloch, proclaimed Balochistan’s separation from Pakistan. The announcement came amidst increased India-Pakistan tensions, following India’s recent cross-border Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Mir Yar Baloch, an influential writer and human rights campaigner, posted on platform X declaring Balochistan’s independence. He urged India to permit a Baloch embassy in New Delhi and appealed to the UN to deploy peacekeeping forces while calling for Pakistan’s military to withdraw from Balochistan.
Claiming freedom fighters had targeted Pakistan’s gas installations in Dera Bugti, Mir Yar stated: “The fall of terrorist Pakistan is near. We urge for international support and recognition.”
He demanded financial aid to support the formation of Balochistan’s currency and passport systems and asked the UN to convene a session to acknowledge Balochistan as a sovereign nation.
Further, he insisted that all non-Baloch personnel serving in Pakistan’s armed forces, civil administration, and intelligence units exit Baloch territory.
Plans for a transitional government and the inclusion of women leaders were also announced. He invited international leaders to attend Balochistan’s future state ceremony.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for a deadly strike on Pakistani troops, stating that 14 soldiers were killed in a vehicle blast.
Meanwhile, Free Balochistan Movement leader Hyrbyair Marri asked India to rename Jinnah’s House in Mumbai to ‘Balochistan House’, symbolizing a shift in historic narrative.
