Ban on Muslims remark costs Trump dear!

Washington: Donald Trump`s proposal to ban Muslims from entering the United States prompted calls that the Republican presidential front-runner be banned from Britain and Israe.

The remark cost him business in the Middle East and also led to a Scottish University stripping him off his honourary doctorate.

Israeli politicians demanded Trump be blocked from a planned late-December visit and more than 250,000 Britons signed an online petition to ban Trump from the United Kingdom.

An Israeli government official, however, confirmed that a meeting between Netanyahu and Trump, scheduled two weeks ago, would take place on December 28.

Meanwhile, a  major chain of Middle East department stores halted sales of the real estate mogul`s glitzy “Trump Home” line of lamps, mirrors and jewellery boxes, hitting the businessman and former reality TV star in the pocketbook.

Left- and right-wing Israeli politicians, as well as Israeli Arab lawmakers, condemned Trump`s remarks and said he should be barred from visiting.

Confirming that the Scottish Robert Gordon University has decided to repeal the honorary degree conferred on Trump, the spokesperson said that in the course of the current US election campaign, Trump has made a number of statements that are wholly incompatible with the ethos and values of the university.

“The university has therefore decided to revoke its award of the honorary degree.”

The university, based in the northern Scottish city of Aberdeen, awarded Trump an honorary doctorate of business administration in October 2010.
