A terrifying incident unfolded in Brooklyn’s Bensonhurst neighborhood on Sunday morning, when 49-year-old Long Qian Chen allegedly went on a violent rampage inside an apartment, slashing and stabbing four young girls with a meat cleaver. The victims — aged 16, 13, 11, and 8 — sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The brutal attack was halted after an 11-year-old girl, injured and terrified, locked herself in a room and made a brave 911 call, telling authorities her uncle had attacked her and her siblings. Police quickly responded, using GPS tracking to locate the apartment on 84th Street.
Upon arrival, a young boy led officers inside, where they heard screams. Forcing entry, they found Chen armed with a bloodied cleaver. Despite repeated warnings to drop the weapon, Chen advanced toward police, prompting two officers to fire seven rounds, striking and stopping him. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
A second knife was found at the scene. Authorities have yet to confirm a motive, but family members revealed Chen has a history of mental illness. Officials are also working to determine whether he was the uncle or possibly the father of the children.
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch praised the young girl’s quick thinking: “Her bravery may have saved everyone’s lives.” Another child reportedly ran outside to seek help.
The mother was not home at the time. Investigations are ongoing.
