Chinese student tries to destroy doll, sets hostel on fire
HEFEI, CHINA – A university student accidentally set fire to his hostel while attempting to dispose of an inflatable doll in a panic. The incident took place on February 10 at Hefei University of Technology, Anhui province, and quickly gained traction online.
Reports indicate that the student was engaged with the life-sized doll when his roommate returned unexpectedly. Overcome with embarrassment, he tried to burn the doll in the hallway, but the flames spiraled out of control, triggering the campus fire alarm.
Security personnel alerted firefighters, who arrived promptly and managed to contain the blaze. Fortunately, no one was injured, and no significant property damage was reported. University officials later spoke with the student regarding the reckless act.
Following the incident, dormitory management issued a cautionary notice, urging students to dispose of flammable items safely instead of resorting to open flames. “Please refrain from burning silicone or other combustible materials indoors,” the advisory stated.
The story gained widespread attention on Chinese social media platform Weibo, with many ridiculing the student’s decision-making. “What was meant to be a private embarrassment is now public knowledge,” one user quipped. Others condemned the act as reckless and demanded stricter consequences.
Authorities are now reviewing the case to determine if disciplinary action is necessary.
