As the Eaton Fire began to rapidly spread near their Pasadena home, Jeffrey and Cheryll Ku knew they had to act fast. On Tuesday evening, the couple scrambled to evacuate, as video footage captured from their Ring camera and their own phones showed the fire escalating at an alarming speed.
At 6:19 p.m., Cheryll urged Jeffrey to come outside as the situation grew dire. In less than 10 minutes, a fire that initially seemed manageable overtook the hillside, rapidly growing in size. Within 20 minutes, the couple was engulfed in thick smoke, with the sky turning a fiery red as flames spread in every direction.
“I remember saying goodbye to our home as I backed out of our driveway, thinking it might be the last time I ever see it,” Jeffrey shared in a heartfelt post. Fortunately, their home miraculously survived the devastation. However, they noted that many of their neighbors weren’t as lucky and had lost everything in the blaze.
