With the rapid advancements in AI and digital technology, the risk of scams and fraud is escalating, leaving people vulnerable to financial losses. A viral Instagram video has revealed a new credit card scam at petrol stations, which could drain your bank account overnight. In the video, a man explains how an Indian traveler became a victim after attempting to pay for fuel using his credit card.

The man swiped his card, entered the correct PIN, but the transaction was declined twice. On the third attempt, the payment was successful. However, a few weeks later, he noticed over one lakh rupees were charged to his account. Upon investigation, it was discovered that while trying to make the payment, the card had been “skimmed” or duplicated, and the criminals used the PIN to steal money from his account.

Sarthak Ahuja, the man behind the video, shared important safety tips to protect yourself from this growing scam. He advised using touchless payment methods like UPI or tap-to-pay options instead of swiping cards. He also recommended waiting for a notification confirming a declined transaction before retrying any payment. Another precaution was disabling international payments on cards while in India, as many of these scams involve transactions abroad.

The video has gone viral, receiving over 2.4 million views, with viewers sharing similar experiences and suggestions for safer payment methods, such as using a separate card for fuel purchases and setting spending limits on all cards.
