Kryvyi Rih: At least 16 people have been killed and more than 130 injured after Russian drones struck a shopping centre in the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih, according to Ukrainian authorities and reports from international media.
Second strike raises fears
The attack on Friday involved two drone strikes, with the second coming about 30 minutes after the first. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described it as a deliberate “double-tap” attack, saying the follow-up strike targeted emergency responders who had arrived at the scene.
The shopping centre was hit during the daytime, when civilians were present. More than 130 people were reported injured, including children, while several victims remained in serious condition and some people were still reported missing.
Zelenskyy condemns attack
Kryvyi Rih is the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He condemned the attack as a deliberate assault and called for international action against Russia.
The latest strike came amid continued Russian attacks across Ukraine. Other strikes reported on the same day also caused civilian deaths in parts of the country.
The attack has drawn renewed attention to the dangers faced by civilians as the war continues, with crowded public places remaining vulnerable to aerial attacks.
