A Delta Air Lines aircraft carrying 80 people, including four crew members, made a crash landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday, overturning on the snow-covered runway. At least 18 passengers sustained injuries, though no fatalities were reported.
The Endeavor Air flight from Minneapolis faced a rough touchdown following a severe snowstorm that had battered the region. A viral video captured the aircraft skidding before flipping over, with thick black smoke billowing from its fuselage. Passengers were seen scrambling away from the overturned CRJ-900, shielding themselves from fierce winds and swirling snow.
Emergency teams arrived within moments, dousing the aircraft as passengers were still making their way out. Among the injured was a child, with all affected individuals transported to nearby hospitals via ambulance or helicopter.
Toronto Airport Authority CEO Deborah Flint praised the swift response of rescue crews, emphasizing that the incident did not involve any other flights. Flight operations were temporarily suspended for two hours but later resumed, though delays are expected.
Delta Airlines confirmed the accident and stated that their priority is assisting those impacted. The airline activated helplines for concerned family members and suspended all flights to and from Toronto for the remainder of the day.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian expressed sorrow over the event, thanking first responders and promising updates as investigations progress. The crash follows a major snowstorm that had already disrupted hundreds of flights across eastern Canada.
