The incident unfolded when a man exited a vehicle at Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad park in Rochester Hills, Michigan, around 5 p.m. local time and discharged approximately 30 rounds from a 9mm semiautomatic Glock, reloading multiple times, as detailed by Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard during a press briefing.

Initial reports had indicated five people were injured, though police later confirmed up to ten victims. There was no immediate information on fatalities.

Rochester Hills is situated approximately 30 miles (50 km) north of Detroit. This area of Oakland County was previously marred by tragedy in 2021 when a student carried out a mass shooting at Oxford High School in neighboring Oxford Township, leaving multiple fatalities and injuries.

“This is devastating for us here in Oakland County,” Sheriff Bouchard remarked. “We’ve experienced so many tragedies, including the incomprehensible events at Oxford.”

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed sorrow over the incident, stating, “I am heartbroken to learn about the shooting in Rochester Hills.”
