Dubai International Airport and the iconic Burj Al Arab sustained damage following an overnight Iranian attack across Gulf states, according to aviation sources cited by Reuters.
Dubai’s media office confirmed that “a concourse at Dubai International (DXB) sustained minor damage in an incident, which was quickly contained.” Four people were reported injured at the airport.
Drone intercepted, fire at landmark hotel
Authorities later stated that a drone had been intercepted and falling debris sparked a minor fire on the outer façade of the Burj Al Arab. The blaze was reportedly brought under control.
Opened in 1999 on an artificial island off Jumeirah Beach, the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab is one of Dubai’s most recognisable global symbols.
Debris from aerial interception also reportedly ignited a fire at a berth in Jebel Ali Port.
Regional aviation disruption
Aviation sources told Reuters that one of the terminals at Dubai International Airport was damaged. Airlines suspended several services to and from Dubai and Abu Dhabi as airspace across parts of the Middle East was temporarily affected.
Iran reportedly launched missiles toward Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Doha, following a US-Israeli military operation that targeted Iranian military installations and government institutions.
In a separate development, Abu Dhabi Airports initially posted on X about an incident at Zayed International Airport involving casualties, though the post was later deleted, according to Reuters.
Flight-tracking data indicated significantly reduced air traffic across parts of the region, as airlines adjusted schedules amid escalating tensions.
Authorities in the UAE have stated that the situation is under control, while investigations continue into the extent of the damage.
