A holiday in Turkey turned into a family tragedy for Beth Martin, a 28-year-old woman from Portsmouth, England, who died suddenly after falling ill. What has shaken her loved ones further is the shocking claim made by her husband that Beth’s heart was missing from her chest cavity following her death.
Beth reportedly fell sick with what was initially thought to be food poisoning shortly after arriving in Istanbul. She became “delirious” and was admitted to Marmara University Pendik Education and Research Hospital. Tragically, she passed away the next day, April 28.
Turkish officials stated that Beth died from “cardiac arrest due to multiple organ failure,” but did not provide detailed explanations. Meanwhile, her husband, Luke Martin, accused Turkish authorities of being uncooperative and initially suspecting him of poisoning his wife.
Upon repatriation to the UK, British coroners revealed that Beth’s heart was missing during the post-mortem examination. This discovery has led the family to question medical care quality, investigate potential mismanagement, and call for a thorough probe.
Turkish authorities, however, denied that Beth underwent any surgical procedures that would explain the missing organ and disputed the UK findings.
Beth’s family also suspects that a medication allergy to penicillin may have been overlooked, worsening her condition. The circumstances of her death remain under investigation.
The couple’s dream vacation with their two children turned into a nightmare, prompting a GoFundMe campaign to raise £250,000 to support the family.
