Massive protests known as “Hands Off!” have erupted in the United States and internationally, spanning countries like Canada, France, Germany, Mexico, and Portugal. These protests are a direct response to what activists describe as the “most brazen power grab in modern history” by the Trump administration and its supporters.

The largest rally is expected to take place on Washington’s National Mall, but videos and photos from other countries, including Canada, France, and Greenland, have also gone viral on social media, showing widespread anti-Trump sentiments. Nearly 400,000 people have registered to participate in the event, which will take place in over 1,000 locations across all 50 U.S. states. This movement, coordinated by over 200 progressive organizations, is gaining momentum globally.

The rally’s key message, as conveyed on the movement’s website, is clear: “Donald Trump and Elon Musk think this country belongs to them. They’re taking everything they can get their hands on, and daring the world to stop them. On Saturday, April 5th, we’re taking to the streets nationwide to fight back with a clear message: Hands Off!”

The protests demand the cessation of the Trump administration’s “billionaire takeover” and rampant corruption. Demonstrators are calling for the protection of essential programs like Social Security and Medicare, opposing federal funding cuts. The protests also stand against attacks on marginalized communities, including immigrants and transgender individuals.

In addition to criticism of Trump, the movement is also targeting Elon Musk, particularly his influence over federal policy through his Department of Government Efficiency, which has resulted in layoffs and service reductions. Protesters globally are voicing their opposition to both Musk and Trump, with placards reading, “Hands Off Canada” and “Hands Off Greenland,” and raising anti-Musk and anti-Trump slogans.

As the protests continue to gain traction, both in the U.S. and abroad, the “Hands Off” movement has become a significant force challenging the growing influence of billionaires on political power and policy.
