Washington: Hamza Bin Laden, the fifteenth son of Al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden, was confirmed dead by the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump on Saturday, September 14.

Hamza, according to US media reports, was killed about two years ago, between late July and early August during US military operations.

Briefing the media at the White House, President Trump said, “Hamza bin Laden, the high-ranking Al-Qaeda member and son of Osama bin Laden, was killed in a United States counter-terrorism operation in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region.” Adding to it he said, “The loss of Hamza bin Laden not only deprives Al-Qaeda of important leadership skills and the symbolic connection to his father, but undermines important operational activities of the group.”

Although the press statement by Trump confirms his death, the timings of the operation were not specific.

Hamza’s death was confirmed by Secretary of Defense Mark Esper last month, however, it was not publicly confirmed by Trump and the other senior officials.

It can be recalled that, earlier this year, the US State Department had made an announcement offering USD 1 million to the one who supplies information about Hamza’s whereabouts. He was identified as “Specially Designated Global Terrorist” in January 2017.
