Harvard University Police have released photos of two individuals wanted in connection with an explosion that occurred inside a Harvard Medical School building early on Saturday morning. The incident, which authorities have confirmed was an intentional act, took place shortly before 3 am on the fourth floor of the Goldenson Building located on the Harvard Longwood Campus’s main quad.

According to the Harvard Crimson, the explosion rattled the usually quiet medical campus, prompting a swift response from campus police and the Boston Fire Department. While no injuries were reported, officials have confirmed that the blast was deliberate, raising security concerns within one of the world’s most prestigious universities.

Authorities said surveillance footage captured two individuals running from the building moments after the detonation. “A responding officer saw the two fleeing and attempted to stop them but was unsuccessful,” said the Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) in a statement.

The suspects reportedly wore face coverings to conceal their identities. The police released still images from security footage on Saturday evening, seeking public assistance in identifying the pair. “We are urging anyone with information about the individuals or their whereabouts to come forward,” an HUPD spokesperson said.

The Boston Fire Department, which conducted a thorough sweep of the premises following the explosion, confirmed that no secondary devices were found. “The explosion was intentional, but at this stage, we do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community,” a department official stated.

The Goldenson Building houses several laboratories and research facilities, but officials have not disclosed whether any hazardous materials were present at the time of the incident. Investigators from the Boston Police Department, FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are assisting in the investigation to determine the motive and source of the explosion.

As of Saturday evening, campus security was tightened across the Longwood Medical Area, with restricted access to some research wings and increased patrols. Harvard University officials assured students, staff, and the public that safety measures are being enhanced while investigations continue.

The university has urged calm among its community members and asked them to report any suspicious activity or persons to the HUPD. “We are grateful that no one was hurt,” a Harvard spokesperson said, adding that updates will be shared as the investigation progresses.
