New Delhi / PoK:
India has strongly condemned Pakistan’s recent actions in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), describing them as “horrific violations” following clashes that left at least 10 people dead and many others injured during protests. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) criticised Pakistan’s “oppressive approach,” highlighting that the unrest is a direct consequence of decades-long exploitation and mismanagement in the region.

Clashes and crackdown

According to reports, fresh clashes erupted when demonstrators took to the streets in PoK, demanding basic rights and protesting against administrative policies. Pakistani authorities responded with force, leading to multiple casualties. In an effort to control the situation, a complete communications blackout has been imposed since September 28, affecting internet and telecommunication services. Schools have been closed, and additional police and paramilitary units have been deployed to contain the unrest.

Exploitation and plundering

India further highlighted Pakistan’s long-standing exploitation of PoK’s natural and economic resources, stressing that residents face systemic neglect and suppression. The MEA called for international attention to the ongoing human rights violations, warning that the region’s populace continues to suffer under repressive measures.

International reactions

The unrest has drawn global concern, with a UK parliamentary panel expressing “serious concern” over the situation. The panel urged the British government to raise the issue with Pakistan, reflecting growing international attention on the treatment of residents in PoK.

India’s stance

Reaffirming its position, India emphasised that Jammu and Kashmir, along with Ladakh, will always remain an integral part of the country. The government underscored the need for Pakistan to halt violence, respect human rights, and allow peaceful resolution of local grievances.
