Indian citizens now enjoy visa-free access to 58 countries, according to the Henley Passport Index 2024, which places India’s passport at the 82nd rank globally.
Popular tourist destinations such as Indonesia, Maldives, and Thailand allow Indian passport holders to travel without visas.
Singapore leads the ranking with visa-free access to 195 countries, followed closely by France, Italy, Germany, Spain, and Japan, each offering entry to 192 destinations. Austria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, South Korea, and Sweden share the third position with access to 191 countries.
The United Kingdom, New Zealand, Norway, Belgium, Denmark, and Switzerland rank fourth with visa-free access to 190 countries, while Australia and Portugal jointly hold the fifth spot with 189 destinations.
The United States has dropped to eighth place, allowing visa-free entry to 186 countries.
In total, 34 countries feature in the top 10 most powerful passports on the index, which relies on data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA).
The Henley Passport Index assumes that passport holders meet standard entry criteria as adult citizens traveling alone for short-term tourism or business purposes. Complex scenarios such as diplomatic travel, temporary passports, and transit stays are excluded.
