An Indian woman living in Australia has gone viral on social media after sharing a humorous yet relatable video describing how her expectations about life abroad changed after migration.

The woman, identified as Akanksha, shared the video on Instagram, where she jokingly described settling in Australia as a “trap”. Her post resonated widely with viewers, especially Indians, as it portrayed everyday realities of life abroad through sarcasm and humour.

Viral video highlights reality versus migration dreams

In the video, Akanksha said she initially believed moving abroad would mean a high-paying job and a relaxed lifestyle. However, she said her routine changed drastically within six months.

She now wakes up early, goes to the gym regularly and even participates in 10-kilometre hikes with her partner for recreation. She joked that her relaxed lifestyle expectations disappeared, and she now genuinely feels motivated to go to work.

Small lifestyle changes redefine idea of success

The video also focused on everyday quality-of-life factors. She said she can walk safely at night, breathe clean air, eat quality food and enjoy nature regularly. She added that she often still has energy left at the end of the day — something she said surprised her the most.

With sarcasm, she said she had become used to peace, work-life balance, safety and structured work culture, calling Australia a “10 out of 10 trap”.

In her caption, she explained she expected struggle and hard work but instead found stability, balanced work culture and guilt-free weekends. She added that things once seen as luxuries — time, financial stability and mental peace — had become part of daily life.

The video has triggered conversations online about migration expectations, lifestyle trade-offs and changing definitions of success among young professionals.
