Denise Ivonne Jarvis Gongora, a Mexican-Canadian social media influencer widely known online as “Mary Magdalene”, died on December 9 after falling from the ninth floor of a high-rise apartment in Patong, a popular beach town on Thailand’s Phuket Island. She was 33.

Thai police said investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.

Body found in parking area

According to local media reports, Gongora’s body was discovered around 1.50 pm by staff members in the apartment building’s parking area. Captain Channarong Prakongkuea of the Patong Police Station confirmed that emergency responders and investigators were alerted immediately.

Police later established her identity with the help of family members. Authorities have not yet clarified whether the death was accidental or otherwise.

Investigators noted that Gongora was scheduled to check out of the apartment on December 10, a day after the incident. A pair of flip-flops believed to belong to her were reportedly found on the ninth floor, adding to the unanswered questions surrounding the fall.

Social media presence and artistic work

Gongora had built a significant online following, with over 400,000 followers across multiple Instagram accounts. She was known for her bold and unconventional appearance, including extensive cosmetic procedures, facial and body tattoos, and a highly stylised public persona.

Beyond adult content shared on the subscription platform OnlyFans, she also showcased her psychedelic artwork, often posting detailed paintings that reflected her inner emotional landscape and creative expression.

Haunting final post

On December 8, a day before her death, Gongora shared what many followers later described as a haunting final post. The upload included stills from the closing scene of The Truman Show, featuring the line, “And in case I don’t see ya, good afternoon, good evening and good night,” along with what appeared to be a blurred childhood photograph of herself.

The post drew renewed attention following news of her death, with fans expressing shock and grief across platforms. For reference, The Truman Show is a 1998 film exploring identity and isolation, often cited in discussions on modern celebrity culture.

Family tributes and ongoing probe

In emotional Instagram Stories, her brother Ivan paid tribute to her creativity and spirit, sharing photos and videos from different stages of her life. “You are my world. I wish things were different,” he wrote, expressing deep personal loss.

Thai police have stated that enquiries are continuing and that no conclusions have yet been reached.
