Beijing, Sept 9: Shenzhen-based tech firm Arashi Vision Inc., known globally for its camera brand Insta360, is making headlines for its unique employee wellness initiative — the “Million Yuan Weight Loss Challenge.” The program, which began on August 12, offers employees financial rewards for losing weight and embracing healthier lifestyles.

How the program works

Employees can earn 500 yuan (₹6,100) for every 0.5 kg lost. The challenge is designed to promote balanced diets, regular exercise, and long-term well-being, blending workplace incentives with personal health goals.

Since its launch in 2022, Insta360 has organized seven rounds of the challenge, distributing nearly 2 million yuan (₹2.47 crore) in bonuses. In 2024 alone, 99 employees shed a combined 950 kg, sharing a prize pool of 1 million yuan (₹1.23 crore).

Success story: 20 kg lost in 90 days

One of the standout achievers this year was Xie Yaqi, a Gen-Z employee who lost over 20 kg in just 90 days. Crowned “Weight Loss Champion,” she earned 20,000 yuan (₹2.47 lakh) in cash.

Xie credited her success to a disciplined diet and a daily 1.5-hour workout routine, along with the “Qin Hao weight loss method,” which alternates restrictive diets like soy milk-only days and fruit-only days.

“I believe this is the best time in my life to become the best version of myself. It’s not just about beauty – it’s about health,” Xie said.

Her journey, openly shared with colleagues, has inspired many others to join the challenge.

More than just weight loss

Insta360 insists the initiative is not only about shedding kilos. A company spokesperson explained:

“Through this challenge, we aim to promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage employees to prioritize their well-being beyond work. It serves as a positive incentive for them to engage with life and work with renewed enthusiasm.”

A growing workplace wellness trend

The challenge underscores a broader shift in China’s competitive tech industry, where long hours and sedentary lifestyles often affect employee health. Corporate wellness programs like Insta360’s are becoming increasingly popular, linking financial incentives with fitness achievements to reduce stress, improve morale, and boost productivity.

With millions already paid out and success stories like Xie’s inspiring others, Insta360 has positioned itself as a pioneer in employee well-being — showing how wellness can become a cornerstone of workplace culture.
