Former Thai police colonel Thitisan Utthanaphon, known as “Joe Ferrari”, was found dead in his Bangkok jail cell, three years after being sentenced to life for torturing a drug suspect to death.

Death Under Scrutiny

Authorities said Thitisan died by suicide, but his family has raised doubts. Thailand’s justice ministry has launched an investigation, especially after allegations that he was previously assaulted by prison staff.

A Scandal That Shook Thailand

In 2021, a leaked video showed Thitisan and colleagues suffocating a suspect with plastic bags during an interrogation, sparking national outrage over police brutality. The incident also exposed his lavish lifestyle, including 42 luxury cars, despite earning only $1,000 a month as a police officer.

With lingering allegations of bribery and prison abuse, Thitisan’s mysterious death is now fueling new controversy.
