Washington: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo to discuss enhancing bilateral trade and investment between India and the United States. This marks Jaishankar’s first visit to the US capital since the formation of the third Modi government.

During their meeting, Jaishankar and Raimondo explored several critical areas, including semiconductors, the India-US initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET), critical minerals, trusted partnerships, and supply chain resilience. Jaishankar expressed his appreciation for the advancements being made in technology collaboration and economic partnerships between the two nations.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Jaishankar noted the significance of these discussions, stating, “We discussed semiconductors, iCET, critical minerals, trusted partnerships, and supply chain resiliency. Value the strides we are making in our tech collaboration and economic partnership.”

The US Department of Commerce provided a readout of Monday’s meeting, outlining the focus on the US-India CEO Forum and the US-India Commercial Dialogue. These initiatives are led by the US Department of Commerce and the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry and aim to bolster the trade and investment relationship between the two countries.

The readout highlighted the shared commitment of both sides to advance operationalisation of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF), commending the progress made under this framework thus far.

Jaishankar’s visit includes meetings with other senior Biden administration officials, indicating ongoing high-level engagement between the two countries. As both nations continue to navigate complex global challenges, their partnership is expected to evolve further, especially in areas of technology and economic cooperation.

The discussions between Jaishankar and Raimondo represent a crucial step towards strengthening the US-India relationship, aiming for a more integrated economic future.
