On Thursday night, supporters of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris set a new Zoom attendance record, raising over $2 million in just under 90 minutes. The event, which saw participation from more than 164,000 people, was the largest Zoom meeting ever held.
Named “White Women: Answer the Call,” the fundraising effort featured notable American celebrities such as Pink and Connie Britton. Despite encountering technical issues that led some attendees to switch to a YouTube livestream, the event was a resounding success.
The Zoom call encouraged women nationwide to engage in the livestream chat and invite others to support Harris, who recently gained President Joe Biden’s endorsement after he withdrew from the presidential race against Republican Donald Trump.
One participant, Erin Gallagher, commented, “We weren’t kidding when we said we broke Zoom.” Another user on X tweeted, “Zoom just broke a record with the largest call in its history. They’re raising $20,000 per minute. Pop star ‘Pink’ even spoke from her plane! It’s phenomenal—no wonder Trump is worried!”
Connie Britton, known for her role in ‘Friday Night Lights,’ expressed her excitement about the significant endorsement for Harris. “When Biden stepped down and endorsed Kamala Harris, it was a game-changer. It felt seismic, cosmic,” Britton said.
The fundraiser commenced with comedian Carol Leif contributing $500,000, while Pink highlighted the critical role of women’s voices in politics.
This event marks Harris’s third major Zoom fundraiser as she works to garner support and solidify her position as the Democratic nominee. Previous calls included gatherings of 44,000 Black women and 50,000 Black men, raising $1.5 million and $1.3 million, respectively.
